Writing About Anger and Shame with Eraldo Souza dos Santos

Event Series (See All)

May 4, 2024 @ 12:00 pm 3:00 pm EDT

How to write about emotions such as anger and shame? Are they negative, destructive emotions, or (also) constructive, revolutionary ones? By combining the discussion of traditional literary texts with generative writing exercises, we’ll answer this question in practice. Assigned readings will include poems by Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, and Audre Lorde, as well as excerpts from the prose of James Baldwin, Annie Ernaux, Jean Genet, and Primo Levi.

Participants will have the opportunity to workshop pieces stemming from their ongoing projects in the second meeting as well as in an one-on-one consulting session with the instructor.
