Storytelling in Spanish: Un viaje a través del arte urbano

Some of the most compelling visual art being created exists outside of museums and galleries—particularly in Latin America. In these Write-Ins, Dayana Cano will serve as your curator, guide, and workshop leader as you channel inspiration from muralists and graffiti artists from México, Colombia, Uruguay, Perú, and elsewhere. In these sessions, participants will discuss the artists’ backgrounds and then analyze a particular image in terms of visuals (specific objects, certain colors, depictions from history and memory) and symbolism (what story or meaning calls our attention?). Afterward, we’ll write together and give feedback to each other.

This workshop will be conducted in Spanish and is the perfect opportunity for learners hoping to creatively enhance their Spanish skills by discussing ideas and learning new words. If you have any concerns about your ability to participate, don’t worry! The introductory class on May 21st is intended to help gauge your language skills. After that, you can attend as many sessions as you like. (Attendance at all sessions of this workshop is not required.)

Please note that these sessions are NOT designed to teach Spanish but to creatively use participants’ existing Spanish skills. Therefore, it’s best if attendees have a minimum Spanish proficiency level of A2+, meaning they have a good understanding of the present tense and at least some knowledge of the past.
