SUMMARY:Brooklyn Navy Yard: Past\, Present & Future
DESCRIPTION:Brooklyn Navy Yard: Past\, Present\, and Future is a permanent exhibition at Building 92 that tells the story of the Brooklyn Navy Yard from 1801\, when it was founded as one of the nation’s first federal shipyards\, through to the site’s use today as an active industrial and innovation hub that is home to hundreds of businesses. The exhibition is located across three floors inside the former residence of the Marine Commandant\, an adaptively reused building that was originally constructed in 1858. Inside the exhibition\, visitors will get an extensive history of the site through detailed wall text and a variety of artifacts and objects that span across centuries. \nThe exhibition is the first exhibition to tell the Yard’s story and was originally installed in 2011 with great community support from both organizations and neighborhood residents alike. Ultimately\, the exhibition aims to introduce contemporary audiences to the generations of people who worked\, transformed\, lived\, and shaped the Yard over time\, and who continue to build upon the storied history of the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

SUMMARY:Hamlet
DESCRIPTION:Kicking off an ongoing partnership between BAM and the National Theatre\, director Robert Hastie (Operation Mincemeat) brings his witty\, fearlessly contemporary take on Hamlet across the Atlantic for a four-week run. Hiran Abeysekera (Life of Pi) stars in this sharp\, darkly funny reimagining of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy. \n\n\n\nSince its first staging at BAM in 1861\, Hamlet has returned more than a dozen times\, helmed by luminaries like Ingmar Bergman\, Peter Brook\, and Thomas Ostermeier. Now\, Hastie’s fresh new production marks yet another groundbreaking entry into BAM’s legacy of daring Hamlets.

SUMMARY:Rumble 'n' Rattle
DESCRIPTION:April 18 – May 24\, 2026\nOpening Reception + Performance: Saturday\, May 2\, 7-9pmJoin us during our open hours prior to May 2 to see the work in progress as it evolves! \nOpen Source Gallery is pleased to present Rumble ‘n’ Rattle\, a project by Albrecht Fersch. \nBeginning in April\, Fersch has taken up residency in the gallery\, sourcing materials from the community to transform the space and its occupants into a participatory instrument. During his time at Open Source\, Fersch will create costumes covered with mallets\, sticks\, and thick wires and hang objects that will make sounds when they are struck. The resulting installation will be an instrument that is activated by movement and dependent on the ever-changing relationship between gallery visitors and the machines. Within this instrument\, bodies will become sound and sounds will become communication\, without the need for known language. Learn more at open-source-gallery.org/albrecht-fersch

SUMMARY:Rumble 'n' Rattle Opening Reception + Performance
DESCRIPTION:Join Open Source Gallery for an opening reception and performance in Albrecht Fersch’s installation\, Rumble ‘n’ Rattle. Albrecht Fersch is a sound\, performance\, installation\, and action artist from Berlin. Fersch’s art thrives on exchange\, and he loves being inspired by new environments and constantly exposing his art to new influences. Fersch makes art because the world urgently needs to maintain an open\, joyful\, and unbiased perspective on life. Art is a release valve for the unfamiliar and\, at the same time\, a mirror of everyday life; it is a means of visualization\, a prism of understanding\, an instrument of re-ritualization.

SUMMARY:Hamlet/The Furies
DESCRIPTION:Something is rotten in Denmark\, in Argos… and in the United States of America. \n\n\n\nThis spring\, Irondale presents Hamlet/The Furies\, a bold two-act theatrical event that brings together William Shakespeare’s Hamlet and The Furies\, drawn from Aeschylus’s Oresteia\, in a single\, continuous evening. Performed by the Irondale ensemble and directed by Irondale co-founder Jim Niesen\, these ancient stories collide to illuminate the present moment—one marked by contested power\, fragile institutions\, and an urgent hunger for justice. \n\n\n\nRather than treating these works as historical artifacts\, Irondale uses them as living source material—cautionary tales that echo uncomfortably close to home. Written more than 2\,000 years apart\, Hamlet and The Furies are woven together to examine what happens when systems meant to protect society begin to fail\, and when the line between justice and revenge becomes dangerously blurred. \n\n\n\n“These plays aren’t about the past—they’re about patterns we keep repeating.”— Jim Niesen\, Director \n\n\n\nAct I: Hamlet\n\n\n\nShakespeare’s tragedy pulls us into the intimate reckoning of a son carrying the weight of a crime he did not commit. Trapped between moral clarity and decisive action\, Hamlet navigates a world already coming apart—a world where corruption is normalized\, truth is slippery\, and doing “the right thing” carries devastating consequences. \n\n\n\nAct II: The Furies\n\n\n\nThe scope widens from one family to an entire society. In The Furies\, Irondale stages the pivotal moment when justice shifts from personal vengeance to a civic legal system. But this transition is not presented as a clean victory. Instead\, it reveals a troubling handoff of power—one shaped by pressure\, persuasion\, and unequal voices—raising unsettling questions about whose lives are protected\, whose are sacrificed\, and whether justice has truly been achieved or merely managed. \n\n\n\n‍

SUMMARY:Moby Dick
DESCRIPTION:Regarded as one of the greatest of all American novels\, Herman Melville’s Moby Dick comes to BAM in a new production created by the iconic avant-garde director Robert Wilson for Germany’s Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. This classic tale of obsession and vengeance becomes enigmatic and new in Wilson’s mix of tart dialogue with indie-rock riffs and soaring ballads by British singer-songwriter Anna Calvi.
